KioSK 2012: Light design from concept to realization Light design lesson Sunday - Thursday, 22. - 26. July 2012
The topic itself reveals a lot. During this intensive five-day workshop, we´ll examine how a performance design is being cooked. We will focus on work procedure, from first contact with choreographer, or director, through selection of suitable light sources, substantiation of light concept, designing atmospheres for particular scenes, to technical documentation. Workshop participants will pass all the steps, necessary in light concept making process. They will learn, how communication in theatre is important and will find more about Netherlands´ light designing.
Workshop presentation: Thursday 26. July 2012, 5pm, City Theatre studio, Žilina, admission free
We´ll eat all, we cook. And we´d like to taste it with you, on this presentation, where we´ll go through light designing, from preparing ingredients, to tasting the results, in form of short featured light designs accompanied by short choreographies.

Since 1973, he worked in Holland Opera. Since that moment he worked up from a regular technician to a designer, only thanks to own practical experiences. In 1981, he travelled, thanks to grant of Ministry of culture to United States, where he tried to gain more knowledge in his profession. After returning to Netherlands, he became the first freelance light designer in the country and worked on many productions at home, and abroad, as well.
He worked as a residential designer for Opere Forum, Intro Dance, and proposed world premiere of Naïma for Holland Opera. With experiences from working in theatre, he achieved success in world of architecture as well. Through exhibitions, he became a museum light specialist. He is also working on multiple interior and exterior designs for hotels, restaurants, business passages…
Few years ago, he stood at the beginning of International Lightdesigners Organization – ILO. It is an initiative, which is to support artistic progress in the field. Young designers may try professional habits in working with light here, and may gain experiences from older colleagues.
