Stanica Žilina-Záriečie - culture node

Cultural centre Stanica, in the building of old and still operating train station Zilina-Zariecie, is (since 2003) linking independent venue, artistic laboratory and activists’ collective. On the white map of nowadays we would like to be a culture node - creative, educative and critical. We continue the story of a small train station where people use to stop when passing by and share news and experiences from their travels.

Truc sphérique, non-governmental organization for contemporary arts and culture was founded in 1998 in Zilina, in the building of Stanica we are based since 2003. We run a gallery, a workshop space, residency space for artists, a café, a waiting-room, and a multifunctional presentation venue for theatre, dance, concerts, discussions and screenings. Besides that there is also huge outer space open to the public with a garden, park, summer stage, and a children’s playground. There are several different children ateliers taking place almost every day each week, and on average two-three artistic events a week. Since 2009 we have a new venue S2, alternative construction from beer crates and straw bales.

Stanica is not just the next cultural center in the town or region, but a platform for information, research, and realization of experimental art/cultural/community projects and international and inter-sector communication that lead activities to other institutions.

Stanica is member of European networks, mainly Trans Europe Halles.

Opening hours of the gallery and bar: 12.00 am - 8.00 pm working days, in case of an event until 01.00 am. New from summer 2010 - the bar and gallery in Stanica are open on weekends as well: from 9.30am until 8pm, and maybe even longer…
