Yuri Korec & Co.: Sapiens Territory / dance performance

Where does the body end and the templates into which we squeeze it every day begin? Is it even possible to distinguish them or have them grow into an inseparable scrum over the years like a broken leg in a cast? In the work Sapiens Territory, Yuri Korec deals with the violence that we do to ourselves in order to mask who we are, but also the violence that protects us from ourselves or the environment, which stares at us almost constantly. And he subjects it to a rigorous repeated close examination.

Exhibition from dawn to dusk – Luděk Rathouský and Richard Loskot

Both artists have already exhibited their works in the New Synagogue before. Richard Loskot quite a long time ago  at the beginning of our reconstruction on the construction site, when his clean sheets of paper from the printer in the dome fell to the ground. Luděk Rathouský, on the other hand, as a member of the Rafani group three years ago, when the thesis about irrefutability in the land beyond the horizon was reflected in the lake under the dome. Now their works will meet in one space and the interface between light and dark. Since images need lighting and light objects but, on the other hand, also darkening…

Cinema: Rimini

The film by the Austrian provocateur Ulrich Seidl portrays the character of Richie Bravo. His mother’s death brings him from his adopted home in Italy back to his teenage room in Austria, where Charlton Heston is still flexing his biceps and Vinnetou is still alive. Seidl’s new magnum opus is deeply romantic to the point of sadness. Although on the surface this film seems dirty and perverted, deep down it captures the pathos of life like few others.

Cinema: blind Christmas Horror Night – interactive movie screening

If you think that the real Christmas horror is the management of family members, burnt festive dinner and last-minute gift shopping in disgustingly crowded stores, then you haven’t seen anything yet! We are preparing for you a very entertaining interactive screening of horror films with a Christmas theme and very dubious quality. Not only will the selection of works be beautifully tasteless, but the screening will also have a small catch. You will find out what movie you are going to see when the movie starts…

Pecha Kucha Night Vol. 45 – Štefanský Comeback

Live and without long speeches! The Christmas edition of the popular presentation format returns after three years and will once again be our-your end of the year. We invite creative and active people who will be at home for the holidays. To present what they devoted themselves to and are devoted to, where they were, what they accomplished, but also what they struggled with. This evening is about the people of Žilina – those who live here and do interesting things, those who immigrated here, but also those who were born here, they were lured by the world and return only occasionally. Tips for presenters (very welcome!) write to arie@novasynagoga.sk.
