Only a few weeks left when we have the central space of the Synagogue open differently – it is accessible to the public during all events, guided tours with our guides, or pre-arranged visits by contacting arie@novasynagoga.sk (Adriána „Arie“ Hoštaková). Pavlína Fichta Čierna: Monument for Silent Women

In the central space of the Synagogue, an installation of a spatial object by the visual artist, who also works as a director, producer, curator, and activist, Pavlína Fichta Čierna will take place. Through media art, film, and interactive projects, Pavlína Fichta Čierna focuses primarily on the topics of social exclusion, political issues, and personal traumas.

Through Mountains to Mars with Astrobiologist Michaela Musilová

A meeting with scientist and marsonaut Dr. Michaela Musilová, who searches for life in space and studies its limits here on Earth. Thanks to her research, she has become the commander of more than 30 simulated missions to the Moon and Mars. She describes her life story in the book „The Woman from Mars,“ published by Artis Omnis Publishing – the publisher that has been based in our Studio (formerly the Plusminusnula Gallery) since May. Therefore, the discussion with Michaela Musilová will also serve as its official welcome in the New Synagogue.

Dream of the White Butterfly – Book Launch of Zuzana Šeligová’s Poetry Collection

The debut book of Zuzana Šeligová with illustrations by academic painter Jitka Bezúrová-Mošková, awaiting its active life in people and the fulfillment of its poetic mission. The author will present more live and bring a piece of her humanity to the poems. Musical accompaniment: Andrea Kotmanová.

Soft Edges / Community Dance Performance

A playful movement experiment bringing together dancers, movers, and creative enthusiasts of different ages in a joint performance that aims to support sharing and (mis)understanding across generations. The title of the performance and the entire project, „Soft Edges,“ refers to working with materials – cubes and blocks, which are both an inspiration and a challenge in discovering movement material and meanings.

Art in Dance / Showcase of Stage Dance

For the first time, the Synagogue hosts the fourth annual national showcase of stage dance for children, youth, and adults, organised by Art Studio Z. It is a non-competitive showcase of dance ensembles not only from art schools throughout Slovakia. The idea of hosting the showcase here arose from the need to change the previous venue, the House of Trade Unions, and provide participants with an experience in the specific, monumental, and non-theatrical space of the Synagogue.

The goal of the event is to initiate and support collaboration, communication, and networking among diverse stakeholders – organizations, institutions, and individuals in our region on topics of transparency, combating drought, and environmental protection.

Ferienčíková, Júdová, Timpau: INBETWEEN / Contemporary Dance Performance

„We are more connected than ever before, turning into a mass trying to find balance. We pull and push.“ INBETWEEN is a dance performance that explores group tension in a changing environment characterized by constant interconnectedness and immediate reactions. The space amidst these tensions becomes a collective mass that needs to be constantly remapped.

All Children Have Cells for Mathematics! Meeting with the Hejný Method for Teachers and Parents.

Mathematicians Katarína and Hynek Bachratí from Žilina University, who are the first lecturers of the Hejný Method in Slovakia, demonstrate how thinking can be a shared and enjoyable experience for children and adults in the first stage of primary school. These meetings take place every last Sunday of the month in our café.

Fest Anča – international festival of animation

The only Slovak multimedia festival focused on animated film primarily for adult audiences brings a new breeze from the world of animation, progressive artists, and hundreds of films to Žilina. Opening the summer festival season for the sixteenth time, the main venues will once again be the cultural centers of Žilina – Stanica and the New Synagogue.

Another batch of great young musicians, and this time, we hope it will be open-air (if weather conditions allow…). The evening will be opened by Matúš Oravec with his acoustic guitar, followed by Fall & fell – guys from the Czech Republic, Tapes from Bratislava blending various genres with a touch of improvisation, and finally, the well-known Cherries & Therapy will add something extra.

A documentary film by director Peter Horký and Egyptologist Miroslav Bárta about the transformations of great civilizations and their similarities to our contemporary one. It’s an epic reality show of our own collapse. All civilizations in the past have perished, but why couldn’t we be the first ones to change the course of history?

How I Want It – Screening with Discussion

Cairo, January 25, 2013. During the celebrations of the second anniversary of the revolution, an explosion of sexual assaults occurs at Tahrir Square. In response to these events, masses of angry women take to the streets. Director Samaher Alqadi takes up a camera as a form of protection and starts documenting the growing uprising of women, unaware of where the story will lead her. The film is screened thanks to the One World festival and their project One World in Communities.

The Psychonaut’s Journey: Into the Consciousness of Stanislav Grof + Discussion on Psychedelics with Psychologist Jaroslav Farkaš

A film about the life and work of one of the most significant pioneers of psychedelic therapy, Stanislav Grof, who, together with his wife Christina, is responsible for the development of holotropic breathwork and transpersonal psychology. The film is followed by a discussion with psychologist and renowned Slovak expert on the use of psychedelics in psychotherapy, Jaroslav Farkaš.

Children’s Atelier Exhibition

The art and ceramic workshops, led by Martina Mäsiarová and Karolína Bašteková, aim to showcase the creations of young artists who participated in our courses throughout the school year. Due to ongoing reconstruction at Stanica during this time, the exhibition will be creatively adapted to the current conditions.

Cinema: What Have You Done to the Russians? + Discussion with the Filmmakers

A documentary film by Michal Fúller and Jana Bučka Kovalčíková, co-produced with the organization Depaul Slovakia, gives a voice to ordinary people who suffer every day in the ongoing war in their country. It presents true testimonies and real stories, becoming a call for solidarity with the inhabitants of Ukraine, who sadly continue to fade away.

PARA Performs „Na ceste Okolo nás“ (Under the Rondel)

Stanica has a garden stage called Rondel, which will be fully open for the summer season after the reconstruction of Parovod. PARA is on tour with „Through Our Country“ and will also make a stop in Žilina. Let’s support what we believe in (together).

An original performance by the younger group of a theater ensemble at Ferko Špániho Art School. Various insults targeting individuals based on their appearance, behavior, and interests. The production won first place in the regional competition for children’s dramatic creativity, Theater Bear 2023.

An original performance by the older group of a theater ensemble at Ferko Špániho Art School. Generation Z includes people born between 1997 and 2012, who grew up with a mobile phone literally in their hands. Technology has permeated every aspect of their lives, and social media has become a key part of their communication. However, how does life at the level of digital reality affect their relationships, privacy, mental health, knowledge, and sleep? Is it possible to maintain a healthy balance while succumbing to anxiety and depression?

Cinema: Best Short Films from the Azyl Festival

A showcase of the best 1-minute, 5-minute films, and music videos from around the world submitted to the competitive section of the AZYL SHORTS 2022 festival. An international jury composed of film professionals from the Visegrád Group (V4) countries selected from among 400 short films. The resulting program is a diverse selection in terms of genre and form that is worth seeing. Admission to this screening is free.

Being a grandma or grandpa is not always easy. The world around us is always in a rush, butter is expensive, there are scammers everywhere, your back hurts in the morning, your knees in the evening, and most importantly, where would we go if we had to come back again! But our Granny figured it out simply. She sits by the phone, talks to grandpa, and tells about everything possible.

Cinema: That Kind of Summer

Three women decide to spend their vacation in a countryside house that is used for therapeutic purposes. Here, they spend days and nights exploring their sexual issues and attempting to tame their inner demons. The motto of the house is „Hypersexuality is not an illness.“ The goal of this experiment is not to cure but rather to allow sincere exploration of different experiences, forms, and extremes of desire.
